Planet Payment, DelhiNet in e-commerce tie-up

Online payment solutions provider Planet Payment and DelhiNet Web Services, a domain registrar and Web hosting company, have entered a strategic partnership to offer Indian business online credit card processing.

DelhiNet, with the help of Planet Payment's multicurrency e-commerce solutions, will amke online business convenient for consumers who are buying from Indian e-merchants, as it will be possible for them to pay for their purchases in a familiar currency," said DelhiNET'S CEO Gurpeet Singh.

"In India alternate forms of Internet access especially wireless and mobile access, may in a few years drive this market to the forefront of the Internet marketplace," said Philip Beck, CEO of the Planet Payment. "Planet Payment's m-commerce initiative is ideally suited to service what will become a vast mobile consumer market." Planet Payment's solution enables online transactions in more than 140 currencies.

A recent study by eMarketer estimates that India's active Internet use will reach 9 million by 2003. A joint study by Mckinsey and Nasscom ( National Association for software and services companies) conducted earlier this year predicted growth in Indian e-commerce from about $105 million this year to about $2.3 billion in 2000-01. Total e-commerce could reach $10 billion by 2008, the study projected.
